Take A Day Trip To Mexico Beach During Your PCB Vacation

If you’ve heard of Mexico Beach, Florida, you’ll know it’s as popular as they say. There’s certainly no shortage of things to do in Mexico Beach, FL. The only real problem, perhaps, is finding time to do them all! Regardless, this 1,300+ population city of Bay County is perfect for anyone who likes to get some space (and still explore).

Having well survived 2018’s Hurricane Michael, this city has plenty of history. Check out the following suggestions when you need ideas for what to do first while you’re here.

Spend Time at The Beach

Gorgeous Mexico Beach is five miles of pure, white beach sands for you and your crew to enjoy. Race your family or friends across the beach, lie down and make the perfect sand angels, or heck, just bury one another (full body style) under sand and make yourself into mermaids or sand monsters! It’s all fun and games here with lots of space and a calm environment.

Go Horseback Riding

One of the best ways to experience horseback riding is the one and only Brokeatoe Horseback Riding on the beach offered by Brokeatoe.com. It is right near Port St. Joe and departs out of Salinas Park, which you’ll find between Indian Pass and Cape San Blas. You’ll be able to hop on the back of a horse and experience the beach in a whole new way! Your guide will make sure that both you and your horse are comfortable before your journey begins and will accompany you every step of the way.

Kayak In The Dead Lakes

Kayaking is a great way to experience the waters for visitors of all ages. The best place to do this is the Dead Lakes Park Boat Ramp. You’ve got Barefoot Rentals nearby, a top vendor for this; they run operations from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. They also deliver a kayak to you if your rental property is nearby! Once you’ve got your kayak, you can head out to the Dead Lakes to explore some of the most breathtaking nature that Florida has to offer. Kayaking out here provides a sense of peace and serenity that is becoming increasingly hard to find.

Enjoy Local Dishes

Nothing says “fresh” like a local plate, prepared and sourced right from the Panama City Beach area’s rich ocean waters. When it’s time to chow down during your day trip to Mexico Beach, you’ve got plenty of options for dining. Here are two of our favorites.

Mango Marley’s

Venture out of your spacious Panama City Beach vacation rentals and visit Mango Marley’s Mexico Beach, Florida (open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily; closed Monday and Tuesday) is where you can’t pass up. It’s one of the best places to eat in Mexico Beach, Florida, altogether, according to locals and visitors alike. It’s a very low-key hangout, perfect for relaxing with friends, and it offers an eclectic American-style seafood and bar menu that is fit for people of all ages and tastes. They have got many TVs near the sports bar area, hung down from the roof, where you can quickly look up and catch any game that’s trending (different channels and multi-screens featured on each; some with football, others with soccer, some with baseball, etc.). They also have live music on just about any day of the week.

Shipwreck Bar

Open daily (from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and then 5 to 10 p.m. Fri/Sat or 5 to 9 p.m. Sun-Thurs, with happy hour from 5-6), the Shipwreck Bar lets you pick up any food ordered in advance (right by the curbside) or even eat in. They don’t do deliveries at this time, but the way the business has been growing might change! The setting is very laid back here, and the specialties are oysters (as well as certain shrimps when they’re in stock). Find this lovely little spot right off of Hwy 98.

Events:

The following ideas are great for whether you’re a single adult, a group of adults and kids, or even a couple. The fishing and farmer’s markets stand out in this area, and you won’t be disappointed in all you can do, find/, and learn.

License-free Fishing Days

There are multiple ways to take advantage of this event, and if you play your cards just right, you’ll be able to score several free days throughout the year in which you won’t need to pay for any fishing licenses or state permits. Mexico Beach itself has offered two in particular: Saturday, June 1 (or the first Saturday in June, typically) and Sunday, September 1 (or the first Sunday in September, naturally). Keep checking online for more details about the exact dates. There are also “random free days,” such as the first Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Farmers’ and Craft Markets

The Mexico Beach Farmer’s Market on 625 Paradise Cove Blvd (7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily) should be your next stop. They’ve got original products available from the PCB region and Mexico itself! They have food, beach items, and so much else. Locals and visitors alike always find the basics they need when they’re out here at this market.

You’ve also got the fantastic Mexico Beach Farmer’s and Craft Market at Parker Park (off Hwy 98), which operates from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. year-round (based on weather). Admission is $10/group. They sell honey, flowers and flowerpots, baked goodies, and more. You can hand-make your own local wares with some vendors and even hand-carve your fresh soaps (to the size or shape you’d consider “perfect”).

The nearby Seaside Farmers/Crafts Market is also open during those hours, but on Saturdays and Tuesdays only. They have got a bee farm of their own as well. They also offer tremendous keto snacks, baked goods, games and crafts for the kids, and dog treats. Finally, check out the 30A Farmer’s Market, which is open the same hours (but Thurs/Sun only). They’re a bit smaller but still have some similar types of vendors, crafts, and products for all ages.
